Master Bathroom
Did you know that people spend an average of 182 hours a year in their bathroom? Wow! That is a lot of time. If you are going to spend that much time in a room you should like it. I know not everyone is building a new home where they can pick all new features but there are some simple things anyone can do. Great ways to upgrade your bathroom are
Paint or put in new wallpaper
Switch out your hardware
Find a new shower curtain
Pick a new mirror
I hope my bathroom can possibly give you some inspiration.
Instead of a statement color or cool wallpaper, I decided to do shiplap in the bathroom. I really like the interest and texture it provides. For contrast I chose black hexagon tile for the floor. I have a love hate relationship with the tile. It is beautiful but it shows everything! Every time you walk across it you see footprints. We literally mop it every morning. So, beware of black tile. I would get a sample and step on it with dusty shoes or damp feet and see how it looks.
Let’s talk walk in showers. There are pros and cons. I have more positives to say about our shower than negatives. I love that we used micro cement so there are no grout lines. There are also no glass doors that constantly have water stains on them. It is so easy to clean! The ease of access it great and the space allowed us to do two shower heads. However, I would warn you that without good placement you might be looking at water splash. We have water splash every time we use our shower and therefore, we have a wet floor. This problem has turned into a positive for us because we use the extra water to mop the footprints we make on the black tile. LOL. If life gives you lemons... I would say even with the splash I would choose the walk-in shower again. One more note about the shower. I was worried that it would be cold. I never have that problem. In the summer it is absolutely fine but for the winter we had a bathroom heater/fan/light combo put in the shower that keeps me plenty warm.
The way our shower is designed we have good privacy, and I like how the wall of the shower provided a chance to highlight the bathtub. The wall features the micro cement on the bottom and shiplap on the top. The two elements are set apart with a mantle type shelf that matches the mantles in the rest of the house. The faucet for the bathtub is one of my favorite things. It functions as a shelf for soaps or bubbles and the shelf actually shoots out the water! Another element that highlights the bathtub is the beaded light fixture that hangs above it. I think all free-standing tubs should have their own accompanying chandelier. The chandelier I choose has both wood beads and crystal beads elevating the farmhouse feel.
Other features in the bathroom are the light wood cabinets that play well with the white walls and black flooring while also adding a natural element. The center tower helps define the space around each sink and adds helpful storage. Vessel sinks and modern sconce lighting solidify the modern farmhouse atmosphere.
I was so pleased with how this room turned out. I hope that you can create a space you love to spend time in too.
